CONDITIONAL SENTENCE
"CONDITIONAL SENTENCE"
Conditional Sentence is a sentence that expresses a wish, hope, plan, etc that may be: POSSIBLE, UNREAL or CONTRARY TO THE FACT, or IMPOSSIBLE.
There are three types of conditional sentence, namely: 1. future conditional, 2. present conditional, 3. past conditional.
TYPE 1
FUTURE CONDITIONAL is use to express a wish, hope, or plan that may be possible to happen, with the form:
IF + Simple Present, Simple Future
Example:
- If I pass the final examination, I will continue to Gadjahmada University.
- I will call you, if I have a hand phone.
- If Johan doesn't come, I won't be angry.
- If i have much money, I will travel to Bali and Lombok.
- If I am a TV reporter, I will interview Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
- He will go swimming, If he has free time.
- If he invites you, will you come?
- If they insult you, will you be angry?
- If you do not eat, you will be sick.
- If I study hard, I will get a good score.
TYPE 2
PRESENT CONDITIONAL is used to express a wish, hope, or plan that may be
unreal or contrary to the fact to happen, with the form:
IF + Simple Past, Past Future
Example:
- If I passed the final examination, I would continue to Gadjahmada University.
- If I were a millionaire, I would buy 10 planes.
- If you won the quiz, you would get a special prize.
- If I were you, I would take that chance.
- If Rose continued her study, she would become a Doctor.
- If she a bird, she would around the world.
- She would go to Paris, If she were rich.
- I would understand easily, If you explain it to me slowly.
- If Rumi were at home now, he would visit her.
- If you had much money, would you buy a sport car?
TYPE 3
PAST CONDITIONAL is used to express a wish, hope, or plan that is impossible to happen, with the form:IF + Past Perfect, Past Future Perfect
Example:
- If you had remembered to invite me, I would have attended your party.
- If I had given the interviewer really good answers, I might have got a higher position than you.
- If I had passed the final examination, I would have continue to Sebelas Maret University.
- If he had asked you for forgiveness, would you have forgiven him?
- If I worked hard, I would get a lot of money.
- Had he arrived at the book store early, he would have found a lot of new books.
- If she had been at home, I would have visited her.
- If they saved their gold in a safety deposit box, it wouldn't have gone.
- If I had met her, I would have got a kiss.
- If it had rained tomorrow, I would have slept all day.
